Ok, lets try out this blog thing. My main intention is to have a place to document my love of the geek world, and how I show off that love in my everyday life.
I am not an obvious geek. When most people look at me, they would never guess that I love playing obscure table games, that I used to have a MMORPG addiction, and I spent more time in high school posting on an X-Files message board than hanging out with people my own age. But once I open my mouth all of this stuff becomes fairly obvious.
I love geeky things, but I am also a minimalist. I like things in my house to serve a purpose, and you wont find busts of Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters on my bookshelf. But I do try to work in geeky touches where I can, such as my beloved infinity scarf made out of Marvel comic character fabric. I like things that look normal to the general public, but are noticed and appreciated by geeks that know whats up. And ok, maybe I would have a collectible Willow statue, but I would be using it as a bookend.
Us geeks have it pretty well off these days, and manufactures have started to cater to the geek crowd, and there are awesome websites like Etsy where we can buy and sell custom geeky things for other geeks. But we still dont have everything available to us. But we also tend to be a creative folk, and if something cant be bought, it can always be made. I dont think I will be posting full tutorials. It will likely be links to other tutorials, and how I went about tailoring them to my geeky tastes. I also have the benefit of living in San Diego and attending comic-con every year, so you will be hearing about those exploits, as well as me featuring some of my favorite geeky items out there to buy. I hope it gives you inspiration to embrace and love your inner geek!
